Questions

Scaffolding is a technique whereby a scaffolder will create a temporary structure or platform using the following materials, tubes, boards and fittings.

The structure is usually erected around different types of buildings, properties and shops, or it can be put up independently to create a stage or a bridge type structure. There are many different kinds of solutions to suit any type of working at height needs.

Scaffolds should be erected by experienced scaffolders so that workers along with their equipment and materials can gain access to height safely to complete their tasks when they cannot reach from the ground.

Only a fully qualified scaffolder is permitted to erect scaffold framework as they have the knowledge, training and PPE to ensure that these types of structures are erected to health and safety regulations, you must never try to put it up yourself as it is actually against the law to do so.

A scaffolder uses the following materials as standard to erect a temporary structure:

Tube and fittings including couplers and connectors are used by scaffolders to create the framework and then once this is complete boards which are occasionally called planks are placed on top of the framework to provide a secure and safe working platform so that the user can reach the areas required and easily move around. Ladders and ladder gates are also supplied for ease of access.

All materials that are used by scaffolders should always be manufactured to British standards.

If you require emergency scaffolding Brighton or Hove services or anywhere else in East Sussex then our firm offers a 24-hour emergency scaffolding service. So, if you need urgent access to your roof because it is leaking or if you have signage that has fallen from your shop front then our scaffolding erectors will be with you in a flash to put up any scaffolds that you require.

That is not a problem at all, as this is something that we are very used to doing as a lot of properties in the local area do not have rear access. Our scaffolding Brighton team will arrange for a convenient time to visit your property to ensure we are able to walk our equipment carefully through your home to be able to erect the scaffold on the back of your building.

This will depend on what type of scaffolding Brighton or Hove structure we are erecting but we will discuss your payment options within our quotation. But for most smaller jobs’ payment will need to be made once the job has been put up.

Our scaffolding company has worked with a lot of local building and construction companies over the years, erecting safe scaffolds and here is a very small list of just some of the Brighton, Hove and East Sussex areas we have previously worked in:

  • Scaffold to access the roof area for maintenance and repairs work to the old Churchill square shopping centre and car park.
  • We erected access scaffolds to the Brighton pier for signage works.
  • Our scaffolding erectors were asked to erect demolition scaffolds to a large office space in Hove, East Sussex.
  • Progressive brickwork platforms to a new housing estate in Henfield.
  • Loading bay and gantry scaffolds at Brighton Marina.
  • Access to paint a 3-storey residential property in Kemp town.
  • Access scaffold was erected to different high street shop fronts for maintenance and repair works including Boots & Timpson’s.
  • A scaffold tower to the rear of the Grand hotel for aircon repair works.
  • We have worked on many seafront properties on Marine parade for decorating purposes including erecting temporary roofs.
  • Scaffolds erected for new build timber frames at a site in Patcham.

Yes, we take health and safety very seriously and it is always our number one priority! We have an in-house health & safety advisor who ensures that we adhere to all of the HSE regulations and that all members of our company are fully trained in the latest HSE requirements. All of our staff and scaffolders have the correct PPE equipment when erecting scaffolding in and around the Hove, Brighton and East Sussex areas. We have regular “toolbox talks” with our scaffolding erector teams to ensure everyone is up to date and we also offer our customers a weekly scaffold inspection.

Yes, we have public and employee liability insurances so you may rest assured that if the worst should happen we have got you covered.

Yes, we most certainly do. Whether you are changing a shop sign or need a small tower to paint your store front we will put up your scaffolding in a timely manner and ensure it is completely safe for the general public to still access your shop or walk past. We will also apply for the pavement scaffolding licence with Brighton and Hove council and include this price within our quote.

For the main scaffolding framework, we use galvanised steel tube along with various different types of fittings to connect the tube together. We also use European whitewood boards as the working platform, and these are fixed firmly to the structure using board retention clips. We also use a variety of other equipment depending on which type of structure is being erected. Ladders gates and the supply of ladders are standard on most scaffolding Brighton jobs, but for scaffolds erected in a public area our scaffolders would add foam and reflective warning tape around the standards to stop anyone who did not see the tube from potentially walking into it plus we can install debris netting or monarflex sheeting to ensure nothing can fall on passing pedestrians.

Brighton scaffolding accepts payment by bank transfer or cash, but you will receive an invoice or receipt for your records.

We also offer our East Sussex customers the following:

Debris netting

We also supply debris netting on every scaffolding Brighton job that it is required which will be installed around the exterior of the frame using cable ties, to protect traffic, pedestrians, and workers below from debris and dust falling from height. Our heavy-duty debris net is made from a hardy plastic called polyethylene and comes in rolls of 2 and 3 metre lengths.

Will all our scaffolding Brighton structures we install scaffold ladders for safety purposes, as they are usually the main way for users to safely access the working platforms. The scaffold ladders we install are either wooden or heavy-duty steel and are a bright orange colour to make them stand out. We provide these ladders to every boarded lift that requires access.

We also provide scaffold hoists which can really make your work a lot easier, rather than having to keep climbing up and down the framework to get more materials or tools. We can supply scaffold hoists, gin rope and wheel or electric hoist as a great solution for moving materials up and down the scaffolds, saving you time to get on with your work.

When we sign off our scaffolds, you will also have the option of having your working platforms inspected every 7 days (at an additional cost). This is used to check that the construction is still in good working order and is safe especially after bad weather. A scaffolding inspection is generally recommended for all our customers but especially for those who have longer hire periods.

Scaffold alarms

Our scaffold alarms are a great way to ensure your working area is safe and to deter trespassers from accessing the scaffolds when you are not there. Our scaffold alarms are attached directly to the scaffolds and have a flashing beacon warning light along with an alarm should anyone climb or access the frame of the structure.

When you require a more complex structure to be built, then it is advisable to get a professional scaffold design drawn up. We provide a full scaffolding Brighton design service, and a fully qualified engineer will use specialist software to design the perfect solution to suit your needs, these will also adhere to NASC TG20:13 standards. Load calculations and drawings are provided with each scaffold design.

When your property is situated on a public pathway or road in East Sussex and scaffolds need to be erected in that area, a pavement licence will need to be applied for. But you do not need to worry as we will arrange all of this for you and liaise with the local council to get the pavement licence put in place for the duration of your construction project.
